Review
Here is a detailed review article of Marco (2024) written in Hindi in 500 words combining both the reviews:
If you are thrilled by bloody violence, blood soaked story and the brutality of revenge, then Marco is made for you. This film does not remain bound by the boundaries of logic or science – it is a cinematic journey where every drop of blood is presented as a celebration. Director Hanif Adeni’s offering is a celebration of chaotic violence, with Ravi Basrur’s background score, Chandru Selvaraj’s cinematography, and Kalai Kingson’s dangerous action choreography combining to create an experience that leaves the audience stunned.
The biggest strength of the film is the strong presence of Unni Mukundan. He has played the character of “Marco” with such intensity that he feels alive in every frame – as if he was born for this role. The depth of his eyes and the firmness of his face exudes the violence within him. The fight between him and Russell, in particular, makes the audience’s heart beat faster.
Another notable feature of the film is its action sequences — the fight on the stairs, the fight in the jungle and the climax fight scene are filmed with such precision and brutality that it looks no less than a Hollywood film. Not only is the camera work superb in these scenes, but the editing is also fast and effective, which maintains the pace of the film.
However, the story lacks originality and the screenplay sometimes seems predictable. Many scenes seem to have been inserted just for the sake of displaying violence, which may make this film too heavy for sensitive viewers. The film does not have as much depth of human emotions and dialogues as is expected from a revenge-based story. But “Marco” is an experience different from the traditional definition of entertainment — it affects the senses more than the emotions.
“Marco” is not for those viewers who are looking for sentimental or family films, but for those who like pure action, gore and novelty in treatment. The film is a daring experiment in Malayalam cinema that attempts to push new boundaries. For action lovers, the film is a 10 out of 10, while overall it can be given a 6.5/10.
In short, Marco is a bloody revenge saga in which the protagonist crosses the gates of hell to avenge the murder of his family. This film will give you goosebumps — whether you are ready or not.
Conclusion
Marco is a violent revenge saga that offers an intense and gory experience, different from conventional cinema. The film’s biggest strengths are Unni Mukundan’s powerful performance and the awe-inspiring action choreography. Though the story lacks novelty and the excessive violence may not be suitable for every audience, the technical aspects—camera work, background score and editing—take the film to a higher level. If you are a fan of the action and gore genre, Marco could be a different cinematic experience for you. It is a bold step by Malayalam cinema.
